The Jets W-League team will be looking to repeat an early season result against the reigning champions this weekend. And after their unexpected first round win over the Melbourne Victory, the red and blues believe they don’t deserve to be the underdogs.

It’s been revealed the Legends of Football tournaments, scheduled for Newcastle and Sydney in January, have been cancelled – with organisers citing circumstances beyond their control. Meanwhile, the women’s Jets side will look to cement a place in the top four this weekend.

The W-League Jets have consolidated their place in the top four with a 4-1 win over the Brisbane Roar at Magic Park this afternoon. Brisbane dominated the early play, but couldn’t contain Newcastle’s in-form attack.

The Newcastle Jets women’s side has suffered its third defeat in the W-League season at the hands of Sydney FC. A first half goal to Sky Blues striker Jasmine Spencer proved the difference between the two sides.

The Jets women are confident they can back-up last week’s mauling of Adelaide, when they meet Sydney FC tomorrow. There’s extra motivation for in-form striker Rhali Dobson, with a World Cup berth on the line.

The Newcastle Jets have hammered the Adelaide Reds in the W-League this afternoon, producing their best football of the season to bounce back from last week’s loss.

They didn’t win a game last season, but the Jets women have made the perfect start to the 2014/2015 campaign, beating defending champions Melbourne 1-nil in round one.
