The Tamworth AFL could be set for a name change in 2014, with clubs at today’s AGM agreeing it needs to better reflect participating teams. Suggestions include Australian Football League North West, and Australian Football League Kamilaroi.

The AFL have made public their plan to expand the game in the New England North West. The sport’s governing body is considering starting a local junior competition as early as next year. The announcement has prompted other codes to think about how they attract and retain junior players.

AFL PUSH NORTH WEST EXPANSION
More than 100 juniors from Tamworth, Armidale and Inverell took part in an Auskick clinic at Tamworth Oval today. The program is being run by Northern New South Wales AFL as part of its push to expand the game into the state’s regional areas.
