STEPH GILMORE POSTS PERFECT 10 AS MEN’S BIG NAMES FALL AT SURFEST
The men’s draw at Surfest has lost its biggest name, with Owen Wright bowing out in his injury comeback. There were no such problems for the women’s top seeds – Stephanie Gilmore posting a perfect 10.

SOLI BAILEY WIPES OUT OF SURFEST
Suffolk Park surfer Soli Bailey has been eliminated from Surfest after placing third in round three. It’s a disappointing blow for Bailey who scored his first QS event win at the Hawaiian Pipe Pro earlier this month.

EARLY ROUNDS OF WOMEN’S PRO COMPLETED AT SURFEST
After two days of waiting, the women’s pro got going at Surfest today. While the top-seeds are yet to hit the water, there was still plenty of high-quality surfing on show.

SURFEST – WOMEN’S ANDITI PRO
It’s the first day of the women’s Anditi Pro at Newcastle Surfest. West Australian Felicity Palmateer has been the stand-out, posting the highest total of the day, 17.4. She was one of the bigger names to go through to round two, along with Alana Blanchard and Holly-Sue Coffey. The top-seeded women are yet to surf.

EMOTIONAL RETURN TO THE WATER FOR OWEN WRIGHT AT SURFEST
Owen Wright has made an emotional return to competitive surfing, winning his opening heat at Newcastle’s Surfest this afternoon. It’s the 27-year-old’s first event since he suffered a severe head injury at Pipeline, at the end of 2015.

CARMICHAEL ON COLLISION COURSE WITH ACE
After his heroics in the Australian Boardriders Battle Final, Wade Carmichael left it late to secure a win in his opening heat. LOCAL SURFERS SET FOR CLASH AT SURFEST
Jackson Baker got through a heat in the men’s draw at Surfest for the first time today, setting up a clash with fellow Merewether boardrider, Ryan Callinan.

DRAWCARD SURFEST EVENTS UNDERWAY
Newcastle’s signature surfing event is underway, with Surfest’s main draw starting at Merewether Beach this morning. While the event’s biggest names are yet to hit the water, there was still plenty of action on day one, with even mother nature putting on a show.

O’BRIEN AND KELLY GET PRO JUNIOR WINS AT SURFEST
13-year-old wildcard, Zahli Kelly, from the far north coast has taken out this year’s girl’s Pro Junior at Surfest. In the boy’s event, Liam O’Brien endured a nervous wait, before he was awarded the crown.
