SURFEST MAKES DREAMS COME TRUE FOR VANUATU SURFERS
It’s a staple on the Surfest calendar, but for some competing in this year’s Schools Challenge, it was a dream come true. Two teams from Vanuatu took to the waves, thanks to a partnership struck by a Newcastle business.

CALLAGHAN CONTINUES CHARGE AT SURFEST
Macy Callaghan has advanced to Round Six at Surfest. In challenging onshore conditions, the Avoca teenager posted the highest individual score – an 8.77, finishing second behind Frenchwoman Johanne Defay, with former World Junior Champion Laura Enever eliminated from the contest. Callaghan will now face Victorian Nikki Van Dijk….with the winner guaranteed a Quarter-Final berth.

Sally Fitzgibbons and Stephanie Gilmore have continued their progression at Newcastle’s Surfest today, both winning their heats. But there were some big name exits in the men’s draw, with Jack Freestone sent packing.

ADAM MELLING ELIMINATED FROM SURFEST
There were some more big name exits from Surfest this morning, with Lennox Head’s Adam Melling sent packing. In his round two heat today, the 30-year-old posted a two-wave score of 11.77… point-three short of progressing. CENTRAL COAST SURFERS DOMINANT ON DAY TWO OF SURFEST
Central Coast teenager Macy Callaghan continues to turn heads at Surfest, winning her second heat in a row in the open women’s draw. In the men’s, world tour competitor Matt Wilkinson was one of the most impressive performers on day two.

THE STARS COME OUT TO PLAY AT SURFEST
With the women’s contest at Surfest restored to a 6000 point World Qualifying Series event, the big names are back in Newcastle in 2016. Stephanie Gilmore returns to competition after a long layoff, while Sally Fitzgibbons begins her quest for an elusive world title.

CALLAGHAN WINS OPENING HEAT AT SURFEST
Macy Callaghan dominated in her opening heat at Surfest today. The Avoca teenager, who claimed the prestigious Girls Pro Junior title for the second year, has advanced to Round Two of the Women’s draw. Fellow Central Coast surfer Jess Grimwood posted a two wave total of 11.53, but was eliminated from the event.
